Adorable New Species of Porcupine Discovered in Brazil

A new species of porcupine has been identified in Brazil (and omg it is so cute). Named the Baturite porcupine, it is now the seventh known species of prehensile-tailed porcupines and is native to Central and South America. These prickly little guys are herbivores and excellent climbers, who spend their days resting in tree canopies and their evenings searching for food.

Biologists Anderson Feijó and Alfredo Langguth from the Federal University of Paraíba identified the Baturite porcupine in a study published in Revista Nordestina de Biologia.
