Underwater photographer Octavio Aburto was swimming through murky waters when suddenly and unexpectedly he found himself face to face with a crocodile. The crocodile’s intimidating, sharp teeth were front and center, but Aburto stayed calm hoping that the large reptile would not detect his presence.
“I just put my camera between the crocodile and me and started taking pictures while the animal was trying to come back to its refuge.” Aburto was swimming in the Mexican Caribbean, an area that is known to have to have the biggest population of American crocodile.
Aburto thinks the crocodile was just as surprised as he was. He explains, “Although there was very little time to think about what was happening, I never felt that the animal would attack me.”
